The National Park Centre lies at the heart of the National Park, directly at the renowned Koenigsstuhl chalk cliff and only ten kilometres north of Sassnitz. Bus and train schedules have been coordinated to make your journey as comfortable as possible.
Train & bus
Take the train to Sassnitz Station. From here the public bus (Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern - Rügen - VVR) leaves for the KOENIGSSTUHL National Park Centre.
Train & on foot
A well-marked hiking trail connects Sassnitz with the Koenigsstuhl. Depending you fitness, the hike will take approx. 2.5 hours. Don‘t forget hiking shoes and something to drink.
Car & bus
As you leave Sassnitz, there is a paid car park called “Tierpark am Nationalpark”. From here it is possible to take the public bus to the Koenigsstuhl (VVR bus stop „Abzweig Waldhalle”).
Car & shuttle bus / Car & on foot
The paid car park in Hagen is approx. three kilometres from the Koenigsstuhl. Shuttle bus #19 takes you from the car park to the National Park Centre. You can also walk – the trail is well-marked, easy and takes approx. 30 minutes.
Right to the front gate (only for buses)
In order to reduce the environmental impact of traffic within the park, only buses are allowed to drive directly to the KOENIGSSTUHL National Park Centre (Stubbenkammer car park). We appreciate your support and understanding.
The InterCity train brings you to Stralsund, where you change trains to Sassnitz and then take the public bus (Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern - Rügen - VVR) directly to the Koenigsstuhl. Alternatively, you can take the InterCity to Binz and then the RPNV public bus to the Koenigsstuhl.
Arriving from Luebeck, take the A 20 towards Rostock. Take the Stralsund/ Insel Rügen/ Sassnitz exit and follow the B 96 that takes you over the Rügen bridge all way to Sassnitz.
Arriving from Berlin, take the A 11 towards Prenzlau. At the motorway junction Uckermark, exit onto A 20 towards Prenzlau/Stralsund. Take the Stralsund/ Insel Rügen/ Sassnitz exit and follow the B 96 that takes you over the Rügen bridge all way to Sassnitz.
Drive directly through Sassnitz following the main thoroughfare (Attention: The main thoroughfare veers left at the church!). This road (Stubbenkammerstraße) leads to the Hagenschen Baumhaus and the car park in Hagen.
The ferry from Stahlbrode to Glewitz runs every 20 minutes from 6 am to 9:40 pm, daily from 30 March to 28 October. Ferry sailings can be cancelled or delayed due to bad weather.
