Umweltfreundlich gebaut

Built with the environment in mind

Our new snail-shaped building is an architectural and ecological statement and was designed as a zero-emission building back in 2000. This section, along with the historic main building, is largely self-sufficient thanks to:

  • Photovoltaic and solar systems, which provide 50 per cent of the electricity and hot water required
  • Geothermal probes (8 x 150 m) and heat pumps for self-sufficient heating and cooling
  • A constructed wetland system for the reuse of greywater
  • Vacuum toilets utilising treated service water to conserve water
  • Recycled materials such as cellulose wool, FSC-certified timber and natural resin paints
